The Melbourne Athenaeum Library will be closed on Monday March 10 for the Labour Day public holiday.

The library will be open regular hours on Saturday March 8 and Tuesday March 11.

Our Cultural Program

Much of our city’s standing as Australia’s cultural capital can be traced back to the Melbourne Athenaeum and the role it played in the early promotion and development of music, visual arts, literature and theatre.

The Melbourne Athenaeum’s playwright-in-residence program has provided tangible support to an established playwright with financial support and a creative and inspirational place to work. This program is now being reviewed so we are not accepting any submissions.

Members enjoy a public event, such as a rehearsed play reading, as the culmination of this annual program.
